The Better Business Bureau has released its annual 12 Scams of the Holidays list, warning shoppers about the most common fraud schemes that spike during the holiday season. From fake social media ads and gift exchanges to phony shipping notices, job offers, and charity scams, criminals are finding new ways to exploit holiday generosity and urgency. Learn how to spot the red flags and protect your personal and financial information before you click, buy, or donate.

  • Death-Over-Drinks: A Community Conversation on Dying and End-of-Life 
The Pre-Dead Social Club is hosting Death-Over-Drinks: a Die-A-Logue—a free event welcoming all to explore topics around dying, death, and end-of-life—on January 7, 2026 in Portsmouth, NH. This relaxed, judgment-free gathering encourages meaningful conversations, small group discussions, and shared reflections, helping participants normalize and practice talking about something we all face.

  • Neighbors Helping Neighbors ECHO: Strengthening Rural Community Support 
The Neighbors Helping Neighbors ECHO: Rural Communities series is a free, interactive learning opportunity that will run every other Wednesday from January 14 – March 25, 2026. Designed for community groups, municipal leaders, and service providers, the program explores how to build sustainable, volunteer-driven support systems. It will cover topics like community purpose, partnerships, governance, and common operational challenges.

  • Project ECHO: Aging, Community, and Equity  
Project ECHO: Aging, Community, and Equity (PEACE) is a free, interactive learning program that will run from February 11- May 6, 2026, with sessions held every other Wednesday. The series focuses on person-centered dementia care—covering topics such as maintaining independence and dignity, trauma-informed care, caregiver support, and COVID-19—and is designed for those supporting older adults in rural settings of Maine, New Hampshire, Vermont, and northern New York. Participants will engage in case-based learning through the evidence-based Project ECHO® model led by expert mentors.

Make a Plan with the Brain Health Habit Builder 

The Alzheimer’s Association has launched a free Brain Health Habit Builder, a quick 3–5 minute online tool that helps individuals assess current habits and receive a personalized, research-based plan to support brain health. Plans are easy to download, share and use on any device, making it a helpful resource for individuals and community health efforts.

On Average, Americans Hope to Live to 91 

A recent Pew Research Center survey finds that most U.S. adults want to live well beyond the national life expectancy of 78. On average, Americans say they’d like to live to 91, with 29% hoping to reach 100. Preferences vary across gender and racial and ethnic groups, highlighting diverse expectations for longevity in the U.S.
