NHAHA has five strategic priority workgroups to carry out our vision. In addition, NHAHA has three cross cutting committees to guide the work of NHAHA. Each committee and workgroup is made up of dedicated volunteers, supported by the Backbone Team from the University of New Hampshire Center on Aging and Community Living (CACL). Founded in 2011, CACL has served as a champion for person-centered options for living and aging across all communities for more than 15 years.

-
Advocacy
NHAHA Advocacy works to shape policies that support healthy aging by fostering a strong coalition of advocates, policymakers, and service organizations. Through strategic partnerships and legislative engagement, the workgroup aims to strengthen New Hampshire’s infrastructure for aging and ensure a robust system of care for older adults.
-
Caregiving
NHAHA’s Caregiving Workgroup supports family caregivers by increasing self-identification, promoting workplace policies that accommodate caregivers, and raising awareness of available resources. Their efforts include developing outreach plans, collaborating with service organizations, and hosting educational events for employers and the general public.
-
Housing and Zoning
Recognizing the impact of housing on aging, NHAHA’s Housing and Zoning Workgroup works to increase housing diversity and affordability for older adults. The workgroup advocates for zoning policies that support accessible and age-friendly communities, partnering with planners and local governments to implement model ordinances.
-
Transportation
Ensuring accessible and reliable transportation for older adults is essential to maintaining independence and community engagement. NHAHA’s Transportation Workgroup collaborates with state agencies and service providers to assess transportation needs, promote volunteer driver programs, and advocate for statewide improvements in transit options for older adults and individuals with disabilities.
-
Workforce
NHAHA’s Workforce Workgroup addresses the growing need for direct care workers in New Hampshire. Through partnerships, public awareness campaigns, and policy recommendations, the workgroup focuses on improving job quality, retention, and career pathways for those providing essential care to older adults.
