Welcome to this week’s “AHA Moments,” a weekly news flash regarding key events, happenings, articles, and other relevant information for our stakeholders.

New Free Bus Route Connects Manchester’s North End

The Manchester Transit Authority is launching a free pilot bus route serving Manchester’s North End from June 22 through September 5. Route 42 will operate Monday through Saturday with multiple daily trips, connecting riders to destinations including Price Rite, Elliot Health System, Livingston Park, and Hannaford. The route is wheelchair and mobility device accessible, and riders can request stops between scheduled locations. Community members are encouraged to use the service during the pilot period to help demonstrate demand for a potential long-term route.

Tick Season Reminder: Protect Yourself Outdoors

As tick activity increases across New Hampshire, it’s important to take simple precautions when spending time outdoors. Using EPA-registered insect repellent, wearing long sleeves and pants, and checking yourself and pets for ticks after being outside can help reduce the risk of tickborne illnesses such as Lyme disease. Tickborne diseases can affect people of all ages, making prevention and early detection important for everyone.

 Videos Highlight Pathways to Independence

Assistive Technology New Hampshire (ATinNH), part of the UNH Institute on Disability, has created a set of new videos showcasing how assistive technology (AT) tools can support people with disabilities in leading more independent lives. Video topics include independent livingemploymentcommunity and recreation, and more.

  • Webinar: Addressing Social Isolation and Loneliness Among Older Adults
The LGBTQIA+ Health Education Center will host an interdisciplinary, case-based webinar on June 11 that will explore approaches health centers can use to address social isolation and loneliness among older adults. The discussion will include practical strategies from clinical, policy, and community perspectives, with a focus on real-world approaches to supporting connection and well-being.

Genetic Testing Scams and Medicare Fraud

Genetic testing scams are on the rise, and older adults are a prime target. What may seem like a free or low-risk health screening can quickly turn into Medicare fraud, unexpected bills, or identity theft. Normally, a medical professional orders these screenings for use as part of a treatment plan, but some genetic testing is available to the public through third parties or the internet. This access has resulted in the rise of genetic testing fraud, which leaves people robbed of money and private information.
