Job Training Program for Older Adults Returns to NH 

 
A federal job training program for low-income adults aged 55+ is relaunching in parts of New Hampshire after last year’s funding disruptions. The Senior Community Service Employment Program helps participants build skills, earn income, and gain experience through paid community placements, with a new administrator now coordinating efforts statewide.

  • 9th Annual Older Adult Mental Health Awareness Day Symposium 
     
The National Council on Aging is holding the 9th annual Older Adult Mental Health Awareness Day Symposium on May 7. This virtual event is free and includes a full day of sessions on how to best meet the mental health needs of older adults. Continuing education (CE) credits will be offered for several professions.
 
  • Webinar: Addressing Cognitive Impairment and Dementia Among Older Adults Experiencing Housing Insecurity 
     
The National Alzheimer’s and Dementia Resource Center (NADRC) is hosting a webinar on May 14, focused on recognizing cognitive impairment among older adults who are experiencing homelessness or housing insecurity, as well as applying practical strategies to improve engagement and support. Attendees will also learn effective referral and partnership approaches to connect older adults with supportive services and stable housing pathways.
  • Navigating Eldercare Film Premiere Free Screening 
     
Attend a free screening of The Time Before Goodbye: Navigating Eldercare on May 19 from 6:00–8:00 PM in Berlin, NH, featuring a powerful look at the challenges families face and a post-film community discussion. The event, presented by New Hampshire Theatre Project’s Elephant-in-the-Room Series, is free, but registration is required.

Tele-Friend Program Links Older Adults and College Students  

Are you age 60+and open to connecting with a college student for a mutual learning experience? Northeastern University’s Tele-Friend Initiative is offering a free, voluntary program that pairs older adults with college students for weekly phone or video conversations. The goal is to create a simple but powerful bridge between generations—supporting well-being, reducing loneliness, and fostering connection through consistent, caring communication.

New Report Highlights the Impact of Alzheimer’s Disease 

The Alzheimer’s Association has released its annual Alzheimer’s Disease Facts and Figures report, outlining the growing impact of dementia on individuals, caregivers, and the healthcare system. A companion report explores how Americans view and support brain health across their lives.
